The long weekend in review

31 May

This weekend I…

  • Did my first tempo run – it was hard!
  • Saw Bridesmaids with my mom – I think my expectations were too high because I didn’t find it as funny as I expected.
  • Saw two friends get ordained into the Lutheran Church – so cool!
  • Went on a tough hike with the hubby.
  • Learned to make a delicious and quick margarita using my Magic Bullet.
  • Finished preserving the wedding flowers so now my bouquet can be displayed around the house!
  • Decided last minute to run a Memorial Day race.
  • Ate at Olive Garden for my brothers birthday – O.M.G. their bread sticks get better every time we go.
  • Made egg salad for my lunches – I’m on a kick again.
  • Ran said Memorial Day 3.8 mile race – Race report coming soon,  I need to get my garmin elevation uploaded first, it was that kind of race.

A nice day for a hike

28 May

I <3 Saturdays! Especially when I have a THREE DAY WEEKEND! yahooo! Onto the day. This morning I woke up around 9 (this is sleeping in believe it or not), had a kashi honey sunshine breakfast and then the husband and I were off to our friends ordination. My friend and his wife were both getting ordained into the Lutheran church. It was really cool to see it all happen! After the service we hopped back in the car and got home as quickly as possible becuase we wanted to go HIKING! The weather was perfect and we were feeling energized. After another quick meal (quorn chicken nuggets for something substantial) we drove to a local hiking trail that goes up the side of a mountain. I hadn’t hiked there since I was little so I was super psyched.

Wowsa! Hiking up the side of a mountain really works you calf muscles! :) But when we got to the top it leveled out and was much less rocky. We hiked along one of the loop trails they have that goes to a variety of lookout spots. Here’s a picture of us at the first lookout – gorgeous huh?

There was a tree that was standing in perfect spot for us to hit the timer and run to get a photo. Overall we hiked about 4 miles in a little over 2 hours, including a REALLY steep incline at the beginning and a REALLY treterous and rocky decline at the end (that’s the last time we take that trail down, hah). It was super humid so we were both pretty sweaty and grimy by the time we got back to the car.

As we were leaving the hubby asked if I wanted to stop and get my car washed, since it was pretty dirty from all of the pollen that’s been floating around recently. I thought he was crazy at first but then figured we might as well go do it – we were already sweaty anyhow! So a quick stop by a self-service car wash and my car is now squeeky clean!

We got home, took showers, and I stuck some of my moms homemade lasagna rolls in the oven (lasagna noodles rolled up and filled with cheese and spinach, topped with marinara sauce and more cheese). YUM. The hubby and I are chilling now, watching Modern Family. I used my trusty Magic Bullet to make a super quick and super delicious margarita – Jose Cuervo style. Perfect.

Let’s start the holiday

27 May

Good morning!It’s Friiiiday!

Breakfast all this week has been Kashi Honey Sunshine cereal and some rice milk – a nice change from my typical greek yogurt picks. I think I’m over the Greek yogurt thing for a while. I guess eating Greek yogurt for 6+ months straight every week day morning will burn you out.

So you know that training plan I posted in the last entry? Take a guess how many times I’ve run since I last posted? Zero.  It sounds silly but I just haven’t felt like running. and since I’m not in hard-core training mode I figured this week I would just listen to myself, and if I didn’t want to run, I wouldn’t. I actually feel pretty rejuvenated today – probably the combination of some personal stuff finally clearing up, and also because I gave my body a rest this week. I’m getting out of work at 2pm today so the hope – or intention at least – is to knock out my tempo run after I get home. By the way, I haven’t done much cross training either – just Yoga last night.

The hubby is actually at home and being lazy today – he wanted to have a full on 4-day weekend. Can’t say I’m not jealous about that :) But we have some fun things planned for the long weekend, including seeing a good friend get ordained into the Lutheran Church (how friggin cool is that?!), hiking, meeting up with some friends, my brothers birthday celebration and relaxation.
