Happy National Running Day

1 Jun

I hope you’re able to celebrate National Running Day by getting in some exercise – any type, it doesn’t have to be running! :)

I started the morning out with some speed work. I did 3x800s aiming for 5:25. Wowsa it was tough, even though I only went 2.25 miles the humidity was high and I was drenched by the time I was done.

I follow a lot of blogs that are health, fitness and running related. I really love Emily’s blog – shes an awesome runner and all around athlete. Today she posted a fun questionnaire in honor of National Running Day that I thought it would be fun to share on here.

1) What is your favorite distance to run?

My favorite distance is probably the half-marathon. It’s enough time to get into the groove, and when you’re done you feel spent. 10ks seem to be the bane of my existence, but I’m hoping I’ll get better at them. 5ks just aren’t long enough to get warmed up. Granted I’ve never run a marathon, but I really have z-e-r-o desire to.

2) What is the best race you ever did?

Race experience wise probably the Disney Princess half. Disney just has it all together – bazillions of port-a-potties, great volunteers, pretty flat course, and there is nothing like turning that corner onto Main Street in Magic Kingdom. I think I even shed a tear.
As far as performance wise, the Cleveland Half was the best race I’ve ever run, hands down. I felt good through the entire race, took very few walk breaks besides my schedule ones (at water stations), and was able to break the 3-hour barrier. I even felt great in miles 6-9 when I usually feel awful.

3) What is your favorite running attire?

I love my Moving Comfort Running Skirt: the Spring Skort. I’ve worn it for 2 of my halfs and a few local races and it is just SO comfortable. I wish I had more than one so I could wear them every time I run.

4) What is your favorite running gear?

The one thing I never forget to leave at home is my Garmin Forerunner 305. I haven’t made use of all of it’s features yet but I love the display of your time, distance and pace on the front, and the ability to set up interval workouts super easily.

5) Biggest Running Accomplishment Ever?

Running my first half marathon. I ran RnR Philadelphia in September 2010, in the middle of wedding planning and training through a gross heat wave. My time wasn’t great, but if you had asked me a 2 years ago if I’d be running a half marathon I would have told you that you were crazy!

6) Favorite thing to eat after a run?

A burrito! Filled with rice, beans, cheese, salsa, quac, tofu and chips on the side. YUMMMM.

PS – my race report from Monday will be coming soon – I promise!
