Last week I had the really cool opportunity to see Chris Powell speak. If you don’t know who he is, he is the trainer and “transformation specialist” on Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. You can learn more about him on his website.
When Chris opened his talk he mentioned that for the people on his show living a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about calories-in, calories-out or exercising. He said that in order to have a transformation in your body, you need to get your mind in check. Without that, you won’t be able to do the physical things that you need to do to get in shape.
Here are his rules to transformation:
- Believe you can
- Keep your promises – By keeping your promises to yourself you are keeping your integrity and dignity. You must love yourself.
- Fall without failing – If you have a setback, confess, reassess and recommit. Confessing to yourself that you had a setback takes courage.
- Unite – a support system is key when it comes to success.
Chris also believes in looking forward to something every day. Reward yourself, even if it is something small. This is especially important after you reach the goal you are working towards.
I think what’s really cool about these principles is that they can be applied to any goal; weight loss, a goal race, trying to get a promotion at work, cleaning up a messy room, etc.
I found Chris’s talk extremely inspirational, and I hope that maybe this was helpful in sharing some of his great message with you.
