Pittsburgh Half Marathon Training (Week 5)

17 Mar

Hey guys! I’m back from vacation. Oh man, was it nice to find the sunshine for a bit in Florida. I was pretty active on instagram and twitter over vacation but failed to blog at all. I hope you enjoyed the guest posts from Lindsay and Sarah though!

Since I was out of town last week I obviously couldn’t get in my usual cross training. I did manage to hit all my runs, though I did cut one run short (only by a mile).

Saturday – Rest (travel day)
Sunday – Rest
Monday – Unplanned rest – I managed to sunburn the back of my legs a little bit so running felt uncomfortable.
Tuesday – 3 miles, easy. This was supposed to be speed work, but really, who wants to do speed work on vacation? haha. I enjoyed taking in the views as I ran.
Wednesday – 3 miles, hill work. Florida is pretty dang flat, so I opted for running up and down a relatively steep bridge 4 times over 3 miles.
Thursday – 8 miles easy with run/walk intervals. Stuck to 2/1 intervals. Moved this long run to earlier in the week because the temperatures were relatively cool this morning. I also knew I wouldn’t be able to fit in a long run Saturday or Sunday with traveling home. Plus 8 miles along the beach front is much nicer than 8 miles on the treadmill. 🙂
Friday – Rest
Saturday – Rest (travel day)
Sunday – 3 miles easy on the treadmill – planned for 4, but I just wasn’t feeling it. Also got in a BodyPump class that felt so tough!

So all in all, I made it work and got in 99% of the mileage I needed to. I’m really happy about that, and I also REALLY enjoyed running outside all week. 🙂
