Hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Weekly Workout Recap 9/18-9/24)

Last week was a bit different than my typical week of workouts because I was traveling and exploring Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee!  We stayed mostly on the North Carolina side and had a nice time away that was equal parts hiking and activity, and relaxation.  Here’s how the week went.

Sunday – After being in the car all day Saturday, we were excited to get out and hike on Sunday. We explored Clingman’s Dome and portion of the Appalachian Trail (that runs right along the border of NC and TN!) for a total of 6 miles and about 3 hours of hiking.

Monday – 3.3 miles of hiking on the Deep Creek trail along the creek and to see a bunch of waterfalls.

Tuesday – We spent the day zip-lining! It was a blast. I can’t wait to do it again.

Wednesday – We drove along the main road through the park, stopping at the vistas to see the fog settled in the valley.  From there we hiked the Kephart Prong Trail for a total of 5 miles.

Thursday – Loooooooooong drive back home.  I didn’t even hit my step goal on this day.

Friday – Rest day/getting-my-life-back-together-day

Saturday – I planned to run but was just not feeling it.  So I didn’t. 🙂

Sunday – Standing Stone 5k. I was planning to run the half marathon but the rising temperatures caused me to switch to the 5k. I’m so glad I did. I’ll have a recap coming soon.
