Hello there! I hope your weekend was a good one.
On Saturday I got in a 9.25 mile run. I had planned to do between 8 and 10, so I was pretty happy with it. I had a 10 mile route planned out (go big or go home, right?) but after 9.25 my shins were aching and I decided to walk the rest. I realized that the last time I have run over 8 miles was during the marathon in January, so it’s no wonder it tired me out! It is amazing how quickly your body adapts to higher or lower mileage! In January 10 miles was a piece of cake. Go figure. Anyhow, I feel good about my half in May. I know I can *do* it, and after my 10k goal race I’ll have a few weeks to fine tune before that race. The goal for that half will be just to finish though. My focus right now is that 10k PR. 🙂
Yesterday the hubby and I started spring cleaning. He claims he has *big* plans for us. ha. I went through my running clothes and pulled out a bunch to donate and also went through all my cotton race t-shirts. I have collected a ton! I picked a few to keep and wear but the rest got all packed up to mail out to be made into a quilt!
I’ll get the quilt back in about a month and I’ll be sure to share it when I get it. I’m pretty excited that 16 of my cotton race shirts will become something I can snuggle in. 🙂
This morning I got up at 5am and was dismayed to look outside and see that it had snowed another 2-3 inches over night. Just when it was finally all melted!! It’s been snowing pretty much all day, so another inch or two probably has accumulated since this morning. I’m so ready for spring!!!! Come on Mother Nature! Check your calendar! It’s almost April!
End rant. haha. Anyhow, I felt super tired when I woke up. And my legs still felt a little tired from my long run on Saturday despite my rest day yesterday. But I forced myself out of bed, saying I wouldn’t regret getting on the treadmill. I put on my compression socks to hopefully make my legs feel better. But I was procrastinating and moving slowly. I even took some ENERGYBits hoping they would give me some energy.
I finally got down to the treadmill, with 6 miles with some speedwork on the plan. I took the first mile easy. REAL easy. Lots of walking. When I hit mile two I was able to keep a speedy pace for maybe a quarter of a mile. My body was just.not.feeling.it. So I threw in the towel and shut off the treadmill. No point in forcing myself through 6 miserable miles right?
Since I had a ton of time before I needed to shower and get ready for work I chilled out for a while, icing my legs and foam rolling while watching some tv.
I’ll tackle those six miles tomorrow. You gotta do what you gotta do. 🙂
Oh here we are on Sunday night again. Why does the weekend go so fast?!
The hubby and I went out for dinner (Mexican!) and then came home for a Redbox moving last night which was great.
This morning I woke up and got in my first run in two weeks – 3 miles on the treadmill, woo! It felt good to sweat again. Nothing gives me a workout quite like running. 🙂
In the afternoon I got to treat myself to a massage (thanks to a Christmas present from the husband). I asked her to use hard pressure on my legs and it felt so great. I feel so relax and any stiffness from the races is officially gone.
Time to get back to it. 🙂

I started off the weekend with an easy six-mile run. Gotta love cut back weeks. 🙂 My legs were pretty tired but I got through it.
I’m pretty sure my legs were a little tired because I HIT 100 MILES IN NOVEMBER!!! Well 101.67 to be precise, but this goes down in history as my first ever 100+ mile month! Yesss.
On Sunday my dad and I volunteered at a local half marathon and manned one of the water stops. It was a good time – I really love giving back to the community by doing this. It’s one race that I’m not sure I’ll ever do (it’s super hilly, especially in the last two miles – runners have joked that they have “seen God” during the final ascent, haha). I also had no idea what went into the whole water stop thing, and we “lucked out” and our water jugs ran out and needed to be refilled right as the big clump of 10-11 minute milers came through. Needless to say we were filling and handing out cups SO frantically. Definitely an interesting experience. Sunday was also a rest day which was really nice.
The hubby and I also almost finished decorating the house for Christmas!! This is the first time we have had a full-sized tree since we got married two years ago. It’s also really cool to have a house to decorate – I wrapped garland around our bannister going upstairs and light post, put a wreath on the front door, and put some garland in these cute small-ish windows we have in the living room. We’re hoping to do the outside lights next weekend. I also realized I have an over-abundance of snowmen. Very few Santas, but a million snowmen.
This morning I was back on the treadmill for 45 minutes. I seem to have caught a touch of something but I’m drinking tea and eating Riccola like it’s my job. I really don’t want to get sick right now – I have a 23 miler on the docket for this weekend! yikes. Come on immune system…
Good morning! T-3 days til I head to Pittsburgh! I’m feeling ready, just working on my hydrating and slowly packing. Sunday is going to be good, I can feel it!!
Our weekend was pretty relaxed. I went out with some coworkers Friday night. And was reminded on Saturday that I can’t drink like I used to. I was tired and felt lousy. Oops.
We went and picked up our bed frame and our living room furniture got delivered too, so our house is looking much more homey now.
Sunday I experimentes with our new bread machine!
The first loaf came out perfect!! So much so, that we made a second! I can’t wait to experiment more with wheat and sweet and savory breads! It is just so easy.
On Sunday Geisha and I also hung out on our deck. She loves being outside.
Well that’s all for now, off to hydrate hydrate hydrate!
I woke up to snow this morning. WTF?! It’s freaking late April Mother Nature. and it’s snowing. it’s not accumulating, but still.
I ran a ton this weekend. it felt good. but it feels even better to be tapering!
Saturday I ran 9.5 miles. I was supposed to do 10 but for some reason it ended up a little short, whoops.
Sunday I did a 5k. 37:12 was my final time, which I’ll take. My legs were tired, and I really tried to book it. Not a PR by any stretch but the best time in a while, a day after a 9.5 mile run, so I’ll take it. Total mileage for the weekend was just shy of a half marathon, which I’m pretty confident is good prep for the Pittsburgh Half in two weeks!
The hubby and I did a bit of online shopping this weekend, for house stuff and running stuff. I got a pair of compression shorts, ordered some Gus for my upcoming races, and ordered a pair of running shoes since the model I’m currently wearing are on super sale because of the newer model coming out. I’m so psyched to get it all and I will definitely be sharing them as I receive them. Lots of packages coming to our house this week! 🙂
Speaking of Gus. Until this training cycle, I’ve been using Clif Shots (the gels) for my running fuel during long runs. I had the opportunity to try some Gus, so I went for it, and I love love love the Vanilla flavor. Unfortunately I ran out a few days ago (thus the online order for a box of them) but I had a few Clif Shots left over and decided to take them on my long run on Saturday. what a mistake. The texture made me want to hurl as soon as I ate them. Luckily I didn’t, but I was shocked how much my palette/texture preference has changed. Go figure!
In other random news, I registered for the Philly Color Run. I’m going to do it with a few friends and it should be a blast! Between the Warrior Dash and the Color Run I think I’ve about hit my quota of unique-for-fun races for the year. 🙂
