Wineglass Marathon Training (Week 14)

Less than one month until race day. I’ve got my last long run this weekend (20 miles – holy shit) and then its taper time. Crazy. I really cannot believe it. But my body certainly can. This week was rough guys, not gonna lie. My Wednesday run was a big fat failure, and my 13 miler over the weekend was run at a pace I don’t even want to admit due to 99% humidity (no joke, that’s what my weather app said).  I am a little frustrated – 13 miles feels like nothing to me now that I’m in the peak of marathon training and it is a distance I have conquered many many times. So I’m trying not to let me mental game get crazy as a result of it being so horrible.

Saturday – 13 hot, sweaty, long, slow, horrible miles.

Sunday – BodyPump* + RPM*

Monday – P90x Dynamix

Tuesday – 5 miles of speedwork – 400s, Loved.Every.Second.

Wednesday – Planned for roughly 8 miles of tempo work… got in a whopping 1.36 miles. I wasn’t feeling it from the very first step on the treadmill so I told myself to stick it out a mile and see how I felt. I did and I still felt crappy so I gave up. At least the 1.36 miles were at the planned pace I guess. 😉

Thursday – BodyPump*

Friday – Planning to go to BodyFlow this afternoon.

Total Miles: 19.36 (ugh)

This weekend I am taking a rest day tomorrow since it is going to rain on and off, and am hoping for some nice cooler fall weather on Sunday for my 20 miler!!

Wineglass Marathon Training (Week 13)

This week was a bit weird – my body seems to be very aware that I am in peak training right now – my legs are feeling pretty tired. I ended up slacking on the cross training this week in order to listen to my body. Still got my planned runs in though, which I’m really glad about and is really what matters. Marathon Day is exactly one month from today, I’ve got 2 weeks of real training left before beginning to taper!

Saturday – Rest day – Saturday and Sunday were planned rest days since I had a friend up to visit this weekend.

Sunday – Rest day

Monday – 18 Miles – this took way long than I would like to admit thanks to the crazy humidity. But I loved the route I took and overall enjoyed myself.

Tuesday – Rest – I originally planned to take BodyPump but I was feeling pretty tired from the 18 miles the day before and opted for a full rest day.

Wednesday – 35 minute treadmill walking work out + P90x3 Dynamix (it’s basically dynamic stretching). I took the second half of the day off of work because I had a horrible stomach ache and after a 3 hour nap felt much better and decided to do some light working out. Moved my planned run to Thursday.

Thursday – BodyPump* + 10 Miles @ Marathon Pace. Back on track, yay!

Friday – Rest Day

Total Miles: 28 running, 2.5 walking.

I have 13 miles planned for tomorrow and Sunday I am hoping to get back to the gym for my favorite BodyPump + RPM combo since I have missed it for the past few weeks. I’m hoping to get more BodyPump in this week but will continue to listen to my body and adjust as necessary for the higher mileage.

Wineglass Marathon Training (Week 12)

A little delayed on my recap from last week do to a fun jam-packed holiday weekend!!!

Saturday – 12 tough miles. Some runs are just not that great.

Sunday – Rest day – I had planned to go to BodyPump and RPM but sliced my finger while cutting a bagel instead….soooo it became a rest day. Haha

Monday – 4.5 Miles of speedwork – more 1600s – these weren’t too bad – I far prefer the shorter intervals though.

Tuesday – BodyAttack* + BodyPump*

Wednesday – 3 mile tempo run – this was supposed to be 7 miles but to be honest my heart just wasn’t in it. I did do the pace I needed to for the last 2 miles but after that I jumped off the treadmill and did some stretching and foam rolling.

Thursday – BodyPump

Friday – 4 miles speedwork – Since I had a friend coming to visit from Friday-Sunday I opted to move my long run (18 miles!) to Monday since I was off of work for Labor Day, and switched the planned speedwork from monday to friday so I could fit in all in. You gotta do what you gotta do! 🙂

Total Miles: 23.5 – however, technically last weeks 16 miler would count to this week which would make it 30. 😉

Not sure why my 12 miler didn’t feel great but overall I’m happy with my mileage and quality of the week day runs, despite cutting down my tempo run. Over the weekend I had Saturday and Sunday as rest days, and then tackled an 18 mile long run on Monday. More on that in the next training recap though. 🙂

Wineglass Marathon Training (Week 11)

Week 11! This week felt much better than last week, maybe partially since I had to push my 16 miler to last friday and took the entire weekend off since we had company. That gave me more rest days than normal!

Saturday – Rest day

Sunday – Rest day

Monday – 4 Miles of speedwork – more 1200s, I am really hating 1200s. haha

Tuesday – BodyPump*

Wednesday – 10 miles at marathon pace. It took some planning to have the time to run for 2 hours after work on a week day but I did it and it was so worth it! I did this one on the treadmill because of some unpredictable weather and enjoyed watching The Hunger Games while I ran. It made the time fly by! I practiced my race day strategy (since this was a race pace run) of taking a 1 minute walk break every mile and taking in fuel every 45 minutes. It worked well!

Thursday – BodyAttack* + BodyPump

Friday – I’m hoping to fit in some P90x Yoga or possibly a BodyFlow* class after work. If not this will be a rest day.

Total Miles: 14 – however, technically last weeks 16 miler would count to this week which would make it 30. 😉

This weekend will be a cut back in mileage which is nice. I’ll probably feel like I have a TON of free time, haha. I’ve got 12 miles planned for tomorrow and on Sunday I’m hoping to do my BodyPump + RPM combo since I skipped RPM on wednesday to save my legs for the pace run.

Wineglass Marathon Training (Week 10)

Week 10! The mileage is getting real!!! Also apologies this is a few days late – the weekend sort of got away from me since I took Friday off from work. 🙂

Last week was a bit rough, a few of my runs felt really hard. But I guess that is the ebb and flow of these training cycles. I also am starting to learn that I need to be okay dropping the cross training when I’m not feeling it or when I need to fit in a run. I love my gym and Les Mills classes but running has to come first from now until October 5th. 🙂

Saturday – 15 miles. I am clearly in Half Marathon shape since the first 13 felt borderline easy. After that things got a bit rough, but that is the point of this training. 🙂

Sunday – Complete rest day. I really wanted to sleep in with no boundaries. So I cancelled the gym for the morning. However I only managed to sleep in until 7:15. gr.

Monday – 4 Miles of speedwork – 1200s, yuck!

Tuesday – BodyAttack* + BodyPump*

Wednesday – I’m not sure what it was about Attack and/or Pump on Tuesday but I was crazy sore on Wednesday. I had a 6 mile tempo run planned and cut it down to 3. I’m still glad I did it for 3 though to be honest, those miles felt tough.

Thursday – Rest since I moved my long run up a day.

Friday – 16 miles. I can’t believe I am hitting that kind of mileage in one run!!! I took the day off of work to fit in my run and get the house ready for company that we had over the weekend. It was great to get it out of the way.

Total Miles: 38 – Technically 38 miles since I moved my long run up a day bumping it into this week.
