We bought a MAILBOX

14 Mar

Happy Wednesday! How’s everything going?

Last night the hubby and I bought a MAILBOX. That’s right. Shit is starting to get real now 🙂 We’re going to be home owners soon! I’m going to go knocking on a ton of wood now because I’m so freaked I’m going to jinx it. Anyhow, I just got back from our second of the “final” walk-throughs. We marked up the inside of the house with blue tape so the painters and cleaners know where to touch up the paint and clean. 🙂 Our next one is Friday… an hour before our closing. yikes! Everything is looking really good though, and at this point, as I was telling the hubby, we’re just being super picky.

The weather this week has been awesome here. Sunny or partly cloudy and in the mid-60s. I wish it could stay like this year round. This type of weather just makes me feel happy.

Zumba started back up last night and whew it was a tough one. The room the class is in was super hot (rumor has it, around 80) so I was sweating before the first song was over. During the class my body definitely got used to the heat and by the end it wasn’t bothering me very much. I modified a few moves to be slightly lower intensity to keep my heart rate in check. Overall I felt great though. So glad I’m past my stage of being scared to exercise.

Today’s a rest day, I’ve got a little happy hour after work which should be fun, and then the hubby and I are planning on parking it in front of the TV for the majority of the evening. The next couple of days/weeks are going to be doozies so we’re trying to rest up and enjoy the quiet time while we can!

Enjoy your Wednesday!

A weekend full of sweat

27 Feb

Good Afternoon 🙂

I hope your weekend was fabulous!

Mine was pretty stinkin’ good. I have no complaints!

Friday I met a friend for dinner and drinks. My drink was super fruity and not too strong which was exactly what I was in the mood for.

Saturday I spent most of the day at a church retreat.churchretreatcenterpiece

I’m not a super religious person but I was glad that my mom convinced me to go. It was a great way to kind of “reset”. I came out of it feeling really really refreshed. So refreshed that I decided to bake… or rather no-bake.

I made No Bake Granola Balls. They are awesome. I found them thanks to Pinterest (what else is new…) The original recipe is here. I made a few slight modifications – I used a little less oats than the recipe calls for because I ran out, and I used ground flax seed instead of hemp seed. They came out DELICIOUS, healthy and they fill you up to0. They are perfect for a snack when you need a little something sweet. I will definitely be making these again… and again.

Sunday was the day of sweating lots of sweat! In the morning I went for a long run with my dad – 5 miles in a little over an hour. The run was awesome – it was one of those runs where you feel amazing, and I was on such an endorphin high when I got home. It was great. 🙂 After some foam rolling, a shower and eating lunch, I headed out again for a Zumbathon! This is my second one and it was a blast! Though by the end my legs were definitely feeling the effects of my double work out day. When I got home I had plans to make some soup for dinner but instead the hubby and I decided to order a pizza. 🙂 It was the perfect end to a really good day.

Here’s what my workouts this week look like:
Monday – Hot Power Yoga
Tuesday – Zumba
Wednesday – 4 mile easy run
Thursday – Rest
Friday – 4 mile tempo run
Saturday – Rest
Sunday – 6 mile long run

I hope your week is off to a good start!

You can only plan so much

22 Feb

Happy  hump day! It’s finally the middle of the week – finally. geesh. Monday and Tuesday were some long days!

Nothing too exciting is going on here so I’ll keep this short.

Zumba last night was a lot of sweaty fun, as usual. Our instructor informed us that she’s actually teaching at a Zumbathon this weekend, on Sunday. After talking with a few people who are also interested, I think I’ve decided to go (two hours of Zumba for $5 – how could I not??) though this means both a 5 mile run and 2 hours of Zumba will be happening on Sunday. That should be interesting. Though at least my run will be first in the morning so I will be running on fresh legs, right? I hope I’m not completely crazy for doing this…

I’ve also had to adjust my workout schedule for the week based on a few other factors like taking Geisha to the vet (not for anything major), a meeting with our insurance company after work one day, etc.

I guess sometimes you can plan your workouts as much as you want but sometimes you have to adjust your schedule on a daily basis.

Monday – 3 miles
Tuesday – Zumba
Wednesday – Speedwork: 4 Mi, inc Warm; 2×1600 w/800 jogs; Cool
Thursday – Yoga?
Friday – rest
Saturday – rest
Sunday – 5 miles + Zumbathon

PS – I’m excited to take my bright pink shoes out for another spin this evening!

Lead legs

1 Feb

Holy cow, it is gorgeous out today!

It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago this was the view from our apartment.

Geesh. I’m hoping the groundhog won’t see his shadow tomorrow and Spring will be here early this year.

Speaking of the groundhog, the hubby and I are invited to a Groundhogs day party tomorrow evening. The only requirement is to bring a food item that is shaped like an animal. We think we have come up with a neat idea for it but it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out tonight when we try it out… I’ll be sure to take some photos to share our failure success tomorrow.

Zumba last night was crazy – the instructor even put some push ups into one of the songs! Last time I remembered push ups weren’t considered dancing. 😉

I woke up early and went for a run this morning before work. The temperatures were in the high 40s! It was capri and vest weather! YES. I took it slow and just kind of chugged along. My legs felt like LEAD. I’m guessing it’s the fact that I’ve had five straight days of exercise, some of which has been kind of intense (hello, Zumbathon). I would consider taking a rest day tomorrow but I really need to run and rest on Friday so that I’m well rested for my 7 miler on Saturday. In the mean time I’m foam rolling and wearing my compression sleeves to get the blood flowin. I may have even contemplated an ice bath…

Planned workouts for the week
Monday – Hot Power Yoga
Tuesday – Zumba
Wednesday – 30 minute run
Thursday – 30 minute tempo run
Friday – rest or EA active abs n arms
Saturday – 7 miles
Sunday – Rest

Happy hump day folks!

Lots of pancakes

30 Jan

How was your weekend??

Mine was full of a lot of pancakes – specifically on Sunday.

Saturday was my first Zumbathon ever. Holy cow. 2 straight hours of Zumba is no joke. I felt like I had run a long run by the time we were done. It was a lot of fun though, and all of the proceeds went to a charity which was a great bonus! I hope to do one again in the future.

Sunday morning I woke up and my legs felt like lead. I was planning to run three miles, and debated for an hour whether I should put it off or just get it done. Ultimately I ended up getting in my running clothes and heading out the door.

I was supposed to run them at a fast-ish pace, but it just didn’t happen. My legs were dead from zumba the previous day which I totally didn’t expect. And there was lots of fun ice to walk/slide around. And there was also someone walking with two dogs unleashed. The one dog ran at me and jumped on me, so that kind of put me in a bad mood. PSA to dog owners – if you are on a public trail and are walking TWO dogs, they should really be leashed (unless there’s signs saying they don’t need to be). There’s no way you can control two unleashed dogs at the same time if someone happens to pass you. And although I love dogs, I don’t know if your dog is going to be friendly or attack me when it runs and jumps on me. ugh. /rant

After my run came pancakes round one! I met at friend for brunch and PIGGED OUT. Pancakes, eggs, fruit, yum. I don’t have pictures because I never remember, sorry. Pancakes definitely cheered me up though.

After breakfast I went to my parents house to watch a movie with my mom before coming home for dinner. When I walked in the door the hubby said he wanted to do breakfast for dinner. He never wants to do breakfast for dinner. Of course it would figure he would want to do it the day that I had a huge brunch. 🙂 But I obliged, and made my pancakes a little more exciting by putting chocolate chips in them.

Anyhow, that was my weekend. Lots of pancakes.
